Trine 2 is a side-scrolling action adventure game with challenging puzzles. It is the sequel to Trine and like its predecessor, has won numerous awards. The game brings back the same 3 heroes Amadeus the Wizard, Zoya the Thief, and Pontius the Knight, for a new adventure. Trine 2 also supports co-op multiplayer for up to 3 people simultaneously.
This time around the Trine gathers the 3 heroes and sets them on a new journey. At first everything is shrouded in a mystery, because they don't know the reason why the Trine brought them together again, all they know is that it is for a good reason. Like in the original Trine, the story unfolds as you play throughout the game.
The three heroes have largely the same skills as in the original. Zoya the Thief has the bow and arrows with which she can shoot enemies from afar and the grappling hook which can be used to swing or climb on different obstacles. Amadeus the Wizard can move small objects with the power of magic and can also create boxes and planks that will help him advance. Pontius the Knight uses his sword to fight off enemies and his shield to defend against various things. In Trine 2, Pontius also has a powerful Storm Hammer which is useful for smashing through enemies and walls.
The gameplay is also largely the same. You can switch between any of the heroes and use their different skills as you wish. A combination of all their skills is needed in order to advance through the levels. In Trine 2, the puzzles are quite harder and some can be solved by any of the 3 heroes through different methods. The game has many levels of difficulty and you even have a Hint timer which can be 2 or 5 minutes or deactivated. If you stay in a particular area for too long, a hint will automatically appear after a while if the hint timer is activated.
The graphics have been upgraded and they are absolutely gorgeous. Some new details have been added and the level design is better than the original. The physics engine is pretty much the same, however, the game does have a lot more objects to interact with and thus you can still admire a nice simulation of the laws of physics.
Trine 2 has co-op multiplayer, meaning that you can play with other people at the same time. Each player has to pick a different hero in order to play simultaneously. The co-op mode is definitely a nice addition to the game and this adds a lot to the replay value.
Trine 2 doesn't disappoint as a sequel, quite on the contrary it is a nice improvement of the original game with more challenging puzzles and more content.
